ITIL Service Catalog Certification Accepted
Using newScale Best Practices Intellectual Property
Certification Program is the Beginning of a New Profession,
Service Catalog Manager
San Mateo, Calif., June, 15 2009 - newScale® Inc., the market leader in IT Service Catalog and Service Portfolio Management software solutions, today announced that its contributions of Service Catalog best practices were accepted by APM Group for the creation of the just-announced ITIL v3 Service Catalog certification courses. The newScale intellectual property, along with contributions from Pink Elephant in Toronto, Canada were subject to independent review and scrutiny by the International Qualifications Committee of itSMF® International (itSMFI), the only truly independent and internationally-recognized forum for IT Service Management professionals with 52 different Chapters and more than 40,000 members worldwide.
"newScale created the first Service Catalog course in 2005 and co-authored the definitive book with Pink Elephant. Over the years, we have seen practitioners ask for formal testing and certificate to demonstrate competence," said Rodrigo Flores, CTO and founder, newScale, Inc. "The Service Catalog is the engine that drives IT Service Management and we are delighted to be associated with the launch of this global certification program, to create formal recognition for the role of the Service Catalog Manager."
The new certification is the second complementary scheme for the ITIL Qualification portfolio. The APM Group (APMG) of High Wycombe, UK will coordinate course development over the next few months and the qualification will be trialed by Global Knowledge, headquartered in Cary, N.C, and Pink Elephant. APM Group will invite training companies to apply for accreditation beginning September 2009 and, after a rigorous assessment process, APM Group expects to announce a number of training providers active in the market place in the last quarter 2009, first quarter 2010.
Colin Rudd, itSMFI Director of Professional Qualifications and Certifications said, "Service Catalog makes an important contribution to the effectiveness of the organization. Candidates can now gain a recognized qualification in this discipline whilst working towards their ITIL Expert Certification."
"We are very excited that our contribution will now become an open foundation for the whole industry to benefit from," said Mr. Flores. "The syllabus represents both our pragmatic knowledge, gathered from working with hundreds of global companies, as well as coherence with ITIL v3."
Starting this summer, a rigorous accreditation process will take place, involving independent trial deliveries of a Service Catalog course that will cover the key learning requirements Pink Elephant and newScale have identified. Once the Service Catalog certification scheme is finalized and released in September 2009, authorized training organizations (ATOs) may then develop and submit their own training materials for accreditation. newScale will be working with APM Group to create an accelerator program for their ATOs.
This course will qualify for 1.5 ITIL v3 credits, and will be recognized in ITIL v3's Complementary Guidance, to extend the materials in ITIL v3's core portfolio of examinations and certifications. This will allow customers to choose Service Catalog certification as part of their ITIL programs.
Further information on this exciting new certification program will be available from newScale, APMG and Pink Elephant at the itSMF USA Fusion event in September, and at the itSMF UK event in November.
